Since its founding in 1971, the Center for American Women and Politics (CAWP), a unit of the Eagleton Institute of Politics at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, has developed an international reputation as the leading authority in the field of women and American politics, a respected bridge between the academic and political worlds. Working daily with political women, scholars, activists and the general public, CAWP has developed and fostered research, education, information and public service programs that set the standard for understanding and encouraging women's political participation in the United States. CAWP has been awarded a grant by the Barbara Lee Family Foundation to produce the Pipeline Research Project, which convenes a group of top scholars studying women as candidates for public office in order to develop a plan for solid research. Such research will contribute to an action plan that can identify and groom a new generation of women candidates.
