Brandeis University's Tiger by the Tail! Women Artists of India Transforming Culture exhibit features 30 works by three generations of women artists, illustrating how contemporary Indian women artists are questioning society, challenging myths, and promoting dramatic changes in women's roles. These artists explore Indian women's experiences and confront stereotypical portrayals of females. In order for American audiences to understand the meaning of this important body of work, the Women's Research Center will bring a number of the artists to Brandeis and host a two day symposium. Symposium topics include, "Making Revolution through Transgression and Subversion," and "Public Policy and the Pragmatics of Social Change." Following its stint at Brandeis, the exhibit will travel to Douglas College of Rutgers University, New Jersey; the University of Pennsylvania; American University in Washington, DC; the University of Miami in Coral Gables, Florida; and the National Gallery of Modern Art in New Dehli, India.
