Citizen Action Wisconsin

Citizen Action Wisconsin is an issue focused coalition of individuals and organizations committed to achieving social, economic, and environmental justice. Citizen Action employs an integrated strategy of grassroots organizing, public education, earned media, professional research, voter engagement, and political lobbying to advance progressive values and shape the public and political debate around health care, economic development, and consumer protection. Every year, Citizen Action generates hundreds of media stories, mobilizes thousands of citizens to participate in political advocacy, and engages hundreds of thousands of voters.

The Barbara Lee Family Foundation partnered with Citizen Action Wisconsin to support their 2014 non-partisan civic engagement program targeting the greater Milwaukee area. The goal of the program was to increase civic participation by connecting the act of voting to community empowerment. Citizen Action communicated with voters about economic issues that matter to women, such as the need for family supporting jobs and access to affordable healthcare. The program hoped to increase the participation of underrepresented voters and decrease the likelihood of voter drop off in the midterm election cycle.
