In 2008, the Barbara Lee Family Foundation partnered with MomsRising, a powerful grassroots organization that works to bring together millions of people who share a common concern about the need to build a more family-friendly America. For the MomsVote ’08 Program, MomsRising used new and creative online and on-the-ground voter engagement strategies, optimized through volunteers. They initiated a voter registration drive focusing on mother-to-mother/peer-to-peer connections. MomsRising also utilized a network of 400 bloggers and targeted partnerships with 90 aligned organizations to reach thousands of mothers online in their voter education drive. The program increased voter engagement in their core constituency and also mobilized voters who prioritize public policy that supports families.
