Women’s Voices Women Vote

Unmarried Americans are one of the fastest-growing large demographic in the country and a majority of Americans will live with an unmarried head of household. Despite their numbers, unmarried Americans are under-represented in national elections and their voices are not being heard in our democracy. From 2004 to 2007, the Barbara Lee Family Foundation proudly supported Women’s Voices, Women Vote (WVWV) in their efforts to activate unmarried Americans in their government and in our democracy. Specifically, the Foundation funded a list development project allowing WVWV to sponsor research to identify unmarried women (both registered and unregistered) and conducted focus groups in target states to determine which messages resonated with this group of women. This research has informed countless voter engagement projects by partner organizations in an effort to motivate this critical voting block to participate in elections.
