Katherine Symmonds works on non-partisan grant-making initiatives that expand women’s participation in American politics and contemporary art.
Prior to joining the Barbara Lee Family Foundation, Kate worked as a trial attorney in California for a plaintiff’s civil litigation firm focused on protecting elderly and dependent people from abuse and neglect. Prior to that, Kate was a field coordinator for (now U.S. Senator) Chris Murphy’s Campaign for Congress in Connecticut, as well as an intern in Congressman John Larson’s D.C. office. Since moving to the Boston area, Kate has become involved in a number of volunteer organizations with the mission of advancing women in the community: she is co-chair of the Legislative Policy Committee of the Women’s Bar Association, she is a board member of the Boston Women’s Fund, and she is co-VP of Legislation for the Massachusetts chapter of the National Organization for Women.
Kate has an undergraduate degree in Political Science from McGill University, and a Juris Doctor from the University of San Diego School of Law.
