Many of the critical needs facing women, such as affordable housing and accessible health care, can be met through public policy. However, unmarried women (including young women, divorced women, widows, and women who never married) represent the largest growing non-voting demographic in the country, and are underrepresented in government leadership at all levels.
The Barbara Lee Family Foundation provided support to the New Hampshire Citizens Alliance (NHCA) for outreach to increase the engagement of unmarried women in the political process through voting and issue activism, focusing specifically on Manchester and other urban constituencies in New Hampshire. The Barbara Lee Family Foundation has partnered with New Hampshire Citizens Alliance in 2008, 2012, and 2016.
